Internal Wall Insulation
WHAT IS INTERNAL WALL INSULATION?
In a nutshell Internal Wall Insulation is a method of insulating homes that are unable or unsuitable to have traditional cavity wall insulation. This may be because the property was constructed with solid walls ie there is no cavity wall. Also many properties are unsitable to have external insulations due to enviromental issues such as listed buildings or conservation areas.
Internal solid wall insulation works by adding a thermal layer of material to the existing wall. Internal Wall Insulation can make your home warmer and greatly reduce your heating bills at the same time. Internal wall insulation involves attaching insulation to the interior walls of the property, although only walls that are in contact with the outside air need to be insulated – e.g. in a mid terrace house, there is no need to insulate the walls between two properties.Internal solid wall insulation, rather than external, is particularly appropriate where you need to maintain the external appearance of the building.
DO I QUALIFY FOR FREE INTERNAL WALL INSULATION?
To Qualify for Free Internal Wall Insulation the occupant of the property must be in recipt of one of the qualifying benefits. Please see the "How It Works" tab above.
WHAT ARE THE PROCESSESS INVOLVED?
A) Wall Inspection
We carry out a quick inspection of the walls to ensure that your property has not previously been insulated. This is usually a visible inspection as internal wall insulation on a property can be seen by the trained eye. In some instances it maybe necessary for a camera (Borroscope) to be inserted into the external wall. This is to assertain wether or not the property has a cavity and if the cavity has been insulated
B) Property Survey
If the property is suitable we will then carry out a property survey. This simply involves taking various photographs of the property and documenting the rooms of the property by drawing a floor plan. We will also mark the heating systems ie Boiler, Radiators and Gas Fires as well as making a check the insulation in the loft, if it is accessible via a loft hatch and the cellar if the property has one.
PROPERTY CARBON SCORE
This property survey is used to help determine the energy efficiency of your property. This will help calculate how much carbon will be saved by insulating the property. The carbon saved by insulating your property will be added to the national pot. As a country we are committed to reduce our carbon emissions by the year 2030 by 40% on 1990 levels.
WHAT MATERIALS WILL BE USED TO INSULATE MY PROPERTY?
British_Gypsum 63mm Insulation Backed Plasterboard
This is a factory bonded moisture resistant insulation backed plasterboard. It is one of the two premier product for internal wall insulation. As well as having phenominal insulation properties it also has a class 0 fire performance. This should be the only.
SWIP Internal Wall Insulation System
SWIP IWI system components SWIP Internal Wall Insulation provides a system based approach to internal wall insulation. The system has been tested and certified to demonstrate that all components work together as designed to deliver the required performance. The SWIP IWI System is designed for upgrading existing solid (or cavity) external walls. It consists of thermally engineered composite studs and insulation slabs, which can be combined to provide greater thicknesses of high-performance thermal insulation than achievable by using a single thickness. SWIP Studs are a composite of high performance extruded polystyrene insulation and Oriented Strand Board (OSB).
